Matotomana Agricultural College visits Mohair SA

On Tuesday, 26 September, Mohair SA welcomed 20 enthusiastic students from the Matotomana College in Matatiele. This visit was a genuine honour and a significant part of our ongoing collaboration with the college.

We took the students to their first live Mohair Auction during their visit, giving them a unique and up-close look at our industry. In addition to this, the students attended informative MET and MSA presentations at the Mohair Headquarters. These presentations covered various critical topics, including RMS, Sustainability, Climate Change, LCA and the progressive journey of Mohair up the value chain.

Mohair South Africa has been involved with Matotomana College for a while, collaborating on training initiatives and participating in their Information Days and Flock competitions alongside Lesotho and the Drakensberg Growers Branch.

Their visit continues until Friday; during this time, the students will visit various industry partners. Our session with the students served as a reminder of the importance of sharing knowledge with these young minds, as they represent the future of mohair farming and may go on to become valuable government employees in various departments. Notably, many of these students were unaware of critical issues such as climate change and carbon emissions, underlining the significance of educating and preparing the next generation for the industry challenges ahead.
